This quintet was composed in 2021. Bassoon ensembles can be a thing, because the instrument has a wide enough range that contains sub-ranges with distinct timbres. Bassoon quartets are almost a commonplace -- one was used as a familiar television signature tune; quintets are pushing it, unless a contra is brought in, as is done here. Two movements, nine minutes, that's plenty.
